Late third-period goal lifts Pioneers over Bears
HOUGHTON — The Fond du Lac Bears led 2-1 in the second period before the Portage Lake Pioneers hockey team scored twice in a row to jump ahead 3-2 early in the third. However, the Bears evened things again with about seven minutes later. The Pioneers got a big goal from Ross Rouleau with 1:07 left to earn the win Friday night at Dee Stadium.
The Bears struck first 7:21 into the contest. Brett Hauswirth evened things with 92 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Alec Broetzman and Zach Hill both earned assists on the play.
Fond du Lac took the lead bak 1:19 into the middle period.
The game remained 2-1 in favor of the Bears until Colton Salani found the net at 7:47. Riley McKay and Spencer Donnelly both earned assists.
Dawson McKay gave Portage Lake its first lead just 1:31 into the third period when he struck unassisted.
The game remained 3-2 in favor of Portage Lake until the Bears tied it with 11:53 left in regulation.
Rouleau scored the game-winning tally off a feed from Hill. Hauswirth added an assist.
