Brown named CCHA Rookie of the Week

HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech Huskies hockey defenseman Rylan Brown was named the CCHA Rookie of the Week the league announced on Monday. It was Brown’s first weekly award but the seventh time the Huskies have received the rookie honor this season.

Brown had three assists in the CCHA series at Augustana and blocked four shots. He had the second assist on Chase Pietila’s power-play goal Friday and set up Alex Nordstrom for the first two goals on Saturday. Brown has seven assists in the last five games. He has 17 points with two goals and 15 assists in his first season with the Huskies. His 15 assists lead CCHA rookies and ranks ninth amongst NCAA freshmen.

Tech is 15-12-3 overall and 11-8-3 in the CCHA and wraps up its home schedule this weekend, hosting Ferris State at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The six seniors will be honored on the ice after Saturday’s game. The class includes Derek Mullahy, Nordstrom, Marcus Pedersen, Blais Richartz, Trevor Russell, and Jack Works.
