ROUNDUP: Gremlins, Copper Kings top Knights while Bulldogs, Jets fall

GREMLINS 5, KNIGHTS 2

HOUGHTON — The Houghton Gremlins hockey team used goals from five different scorers en route to a 5-2 win over the University Liggett Knights Sunday at Dee Stadium.

Braden Kari led the Gremlins, scoring a goal and two assists in the contest. Jack Sayen added a pair of assists as well.

Teegan Tapani, Ethan Hainault, Jack Rudak, and Connor Arko also scored for the Gremlins.

Cooper Flachs stopped 25 of 27 to earn the win.

UP NEXT

Houghton travels to Trenton for the MIHL Showcase this weekend. They will face Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in their first game on Friday.

COPPER KINGS 6, KNIGHTS 3

CALUMET — On Saturday night, the Calumet Copper Kings hockey team scored four times in the first period and then rolled from there to a 6-3 victory over the Knights at the Calumet Colosseum.

Kobe Solomonson led the Copper Kings with two goals in the game. Erik Loukus had a goal and an assist. Oskar Loukus picked up two assists.

Also scoring for Calumet were Brendan Boberg, Nathan Londo, and Brady Boberg.

Griffin Marchal scored all three goals for the Knights.

Beau Jukuri stopped 18 of 21 shots he faced to earn the win.

UP NEXT

The Copper Kings traveled to face Negaunee on Monday. They will then head to Trenton for the MIHL Showcase. They will face Alpena in their first game on Friday.

COPPER KINGS 2, BULLDOGS 1

HANCOCK — The Hancock Bulldogs hockey team led 1-0 in the third period before the Copper Kings struck to tie the game and force overtime Thursday. In the extra session, the Copper Kings struck again to skate away from the HoCo Arena with a 2-1 win.

Tevin Stukel scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs.

Erik Loukus and Lewis Nagel scored for the Copper Kings.

Jukuri stopped 21 in the win for Calumet. Adam Mikkola made 25 saves for the Bulldogs.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs are heading to Trenton for the MIHL Showcase this weekend. They will stop first on Thursday to take on Lakes Area in Waterford. On Friday, Hancock will face Rockford in the showcase.

LAKES 4, JETS 2

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — The Jeffers Jets hockey team scored a goal in each of the first two periods Saturday, but it was not enough to overcome four goals from the Lakes Area United Lakes. The Lakes won the game, 4-2, at Big Bear Arena in Sault Ste. Marie.

Brogan Turner and Brit Heinonen both scored for the Jets in the loss.

Kasen Helminen made 26 saves.

UP NEXT

The Jets are off until Friday when they host Manistique at MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
