Panthers girls stepup and grounded Jets

PAINESDALE – With starter Emma Besonen on the bench Thursday night in Ewen -Trout Creek’s game against the Jeffers Jets, the rest of the team had to pick it up and fill in the gap.

According to the Panthers coach Jacky Besonen they did the job and it led them to a 53-25 victory.

“The girls did a great job picking it up and filing in the gaps,” said the coach. Jeffers was tough to score on. They are scrappy and play good defense, but we were patient and found the open shots.

The Panthers led 17-7 after won and 26-7 at half. The Panthers’ Bree Besonen was quick with the ball in taking it to the lane. She had 20 points.

“Bree had a great game,” added Jacky. “She was deadly in the middle.”

The third and fourth quarters were much the same with the Panthers outscoring the Jets 27-18.

Leading the scoring for the scoring for the Panthers was Irelynd McGeshick with 23 points.

The Jets were led by Lainey Asiala with 13.

UP NEXT

The Jets fly to Houghton on Monday to face the Gremlins. Meanwhile, the Panthers travel to L’Anse on Tuesday to tip off against the Purple Hornets.
