LAKE LINDEN- The Watersmeet Nimrods came from behind after being down in the first to put the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes under and earn a 54-43 victory on Thursday.

The Lakes’ best quarter was the first. They scored 15 points and led by one after eight.

However, they went cold and were stuck on 15 as the Nimrods got hot in the second and outpaced them 13-4 and pulled into halftime leading 27-19.

” I told the guys that if we want to win this one, we need to keep working for it. and we did,” noted Watersmeet coach Marcus Russell. “We played with some intensity tonight,” “We got aggressive in getting to the hoop and were stronger on defense.”

While a jumper from the Lakes Josh Daavettila half way through the third put the Lakes within three at 28-31, they could not catch the Nimrods. The Watersmeet five stayed one step ahead in controlling the pace of the game.

It was a 43-33 Watersmeet lead after three. The Nimrods stayed the course in the fourth while the Lakes struggled to get a stop.

“Game ball goes to Brayden Cornelius,” stated Russell.

“He is just a freshmen for us but is playing with some urgency for us.”

Cornelius was deadly under the basket with the rebounds. He had eight points. Leading the scoring for the Nimrods was Blake Shively with 29 points.

Daavettila poured in 23 for the Lakes.
