Logan Morrell named CCHA Rookie of the Week
Freshman forward has 10 points in last 7 games
HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech Huskies hockey forward Logan Morrell is the CCHA Rookie of the Week for the second straight week and the third time this season.
Morrell, a native of Mesa, Arizona, tallied three points at the Coachella Valley Cactus Cup with a pair of assists and the overtime game-winning goal against Holy Cross on Saturday. He had five shots on goal and won .581 percent of his faceoffs, leading the Huskies with 25 wins in the two games.
Morrell is tied for the team lead with nine goals which ranks second overall in the CCHA and second in the NCAA amongst freshmen. He is also third in the CCHA in faceoff winning percentage (.570).
The Huskies are 11-7-2 overall and return home this weekend to host Lake Superior State at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Saturday is the annual Marketplace Foods of Houghton Kids Day with a ticket giveaway on Tuesday at 4 p.m. for 500 youth.
