HANCOCK — The Canal Run, a beloved annual tradition in Hancock, is proud to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. Since its inception, the Canal Run has brought together community members and visitors alike, fostering a spirit of health, wellness and camaraderie.

“We are thrilled to celebrate 50 years of the Canal Run,” Race Director Angela Luskin said. “This event has become a cornerstone of our community, bringing together generations of runners and walkers. We look forward to welcoming participants from near and far to join us in this special celebration.”

This milestone event will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, featuring a variety of race options to accommodate participants of all ages and fitness levels. From the competitive half-marathon to the 5-mile run and walk, signature 10-mile Bob Olson Memorial run and walk, as well as a 2-mile fun run/walk, there is something for everyone. This year’s special anniversary celebration will also include the Kid’s Dash,  ensuring that even the youngest runners can join in the festivities.

Participants will experience the scenic beauty of the Keweenaw Peninsula while running along the historic Portage Lake Shipping Canal. The Canal Run is not just a race; it’s a celebration of community spirit and a testament to the enduring love for outdoor activities in the Copper Country.

The celebration starts Friday night with the City of Hancock’s Key Ingredients event – featuring  live music, food vendors, and more family-friendly activities, making it a perfect weekend to visit the Keweenaw.
