LAKE LINDEN- Despite a valiant effort by a young Dollar Bay -Tamarack City Blue Bolts girls’ squad, they could not match up with a more experience Lake Linden- Hubbell Lakes team on Tuesday.

The Lakes sunk the Blue Bolts 76-46.

The Lakes (5-0) came out of the gate early and posted a 13-point lead after the first quarter.

“I liked that we started fast up and down the floor,” noted Lakes’ coach Jack Kumpula. “That is what we want to do. We have no problem winning a track meet.”

Not much changed in the second as the Lakes made their shots and continued a quick transition with good ball movement and easy baskets. They now led 38-17 at half.

Seniors Cleo Milkey and Emily Jokela led the scoring charge for the Lakes with 32 and 21 points respectively. Payton Goldsworthy poured in 12.

“We were able to contain Milkey and Jokela in their end, and that was the plan. However, we did not do well in controlling the fast break,” stated Dollar Bay coach Devin Schmitz. “That is something we need to work on as well as shooting.”

Hi girls had the shots but could not find the net.

The Blue Bolts’ (1-3) best quarter was the fourth where they outshot the Lakes 20- 13, but it could not overcome a nearly 30-point deficit.

Macy Jurgensen led the scoring for the Blue Bolts with 19. Evelyn Moilanen poured in 10, and Laila Bell had nine points.

“I am always happy with the effort,” Schmitz added. “These girls work hard and never complain.”
