LAKE LINDEN- The Lake Linden- Hubbell girls’ basketball squad proved to be the better team on Thursday as they outlasted the Jeffers Jets by a score of 76-39.
The Lakes (4-0) jumped out to an 11-4 lead and never looked back. They led 24-11 after the first quarter.
“We moved the ball really well,” noted Lakes’ coach Jack Kumpula. We made our shots as we worked the ball inside and back out.”
That ball movement resulted in 17 more points in the second quarter and the Lakes now led 41-20 at halftime.
The final two quarters were much the same. The Lakes were able to score with much ease against a Jets’ team that struggle to put up much defense.
Up by 30 points after three, coach Kumpula was able to put in his bench players, and they did well to finish off the game.
“I liked the effort that everyone put in,” he added. “It was good to see.”
The Lakes had three girls in double-digit scoring. They included Emily Jokela who led with 29 points. She was followed by Cleo Milkey who sunk 24. Peyton Goldsworthy put in 10.
“Emily gets the game ball. She was on top of her game once again,” noted her coach.
Jets’ coach Jordan Klemett said his girls were not in this one from the start.
“We struggled,” he stated. “We came out flat and did not communicate as a team. We were not making our shots, and we were not getting rebounds. We need to push the ball better and have more energy out there.”
