Hayes and Albers named GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week
HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech Huskies volleyball sophomores Tess Hayes and Amelia Albers have been named GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week.
Hayes is the GLIAC Setter of the Week for the second time this season after she led the Huskies to a road sweep on the final weekend of the regular season. Hayes averaged 11.57 assists per set in the wins. She tallied 48 assists and seven digs in a 3-1 victory at Saginaw Valley State on Friday and followed it up with 33 assists and seven digs in a sweep at Lake Superior State on Saturday. Hayes leads the GLIAC in assists per set (10.65) and also averages 2.6 digs per set.
Albers, a libero/defensive specialist, anchored the defense of the Huskies on the weekend, averaging 4.86 digs per set. She tallied 20 digs in the 3-1 victory at SVSU on Friday and notched 14 digs in the sweep at LSSU on Saturday. Albers leads the Huskies and ranks eighth in the GLIAC in digs per set (3.51).
Tech went 16-11 overall and 10-7 in the GLIAC during the regular season, winning five of the last six matches. The Huskies are the No. 5 seed in the GLIAC Tournament and will open at No. 4 Wayne State on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
