Panthers boys earn win over Copper Kings, 60-49
CHASSELL — Oliver Campbell hit four 3-pointers in the first half as the Chassell Panthers boys basketball team earned a road victory over the Calumet Copper Kings Monday night at the Ed Helakoski Gym in Chassell.
Campbell, who finished with 17 points, helped drive the Panthers’ offense, which hit seven 3-pointers in the opening half to take a 34-18 lead into half. In the second quarter, he was joined in the scoring by Mason Loukus, who put up two threes as part of a personal eight-point quarter.
Calumet leaned on Blake Tarvis in the second half, and he scored eight of his team-high 11 points to help close the gap. Gavin Sturos added nine points as did Preston Hodges. Micah Pieti scored eight points.
Eli Danison scored 14 points and Brayden Larson added 13 as the Panthers had three players finish in double figures.
Chassell was 4-of-8 from the free throw line through the first three quarters before going 8-of-12 in the fourth.
Larson, Danison, and Loukus all hit threes in the second half to help the Panthers score 26 points over the final two quarters.
