Gladiators boys stop Purple Hornets, 74-60
The Ontonagon boys basketball team got back on the winning track on Thursday with a 74-60 win over the L’Anse Purple Hornets.
According to Gladiators coach Brittany Turin-Jilbert, the road to victory began in the first quarter
“We really preached, before the game, winning each quarter starting with the first one, and we’re able to do that,” she said. “We’ve been really struggling our first half, so it was nice to see a better start.”
The Gladiators won the first quarter just by one at 12-11. However, they nearly doubled that in the second with 22 points and led 34-23 at half. They outscored L’Anse 40-37 in the second half to seal the 14-point win.
The Gladiators had four players in double figures. They included Abi Pestka with 20. Jerry Majurin also had 20. Carson Uotila sunk 12 and Jack Nelson had 10.
“My kids showed a lot of poise late in the game,” Turin-Jilbert said. “I was glad to see them shoot well from the free throw line in the fourth.”
