The Houghton boys’ soccer teams turned a gloomy, rainy Saturday in Marquette into a brighter one earlier this month. On Oct. 14, they defeated Marquette JV, 5-0, for the U.P. Division 2 Championship title.

To get there, they defeated Escanaba-Bay Side 3-0. In that game, Ethan Heckel, Finnian O’Neill and Addison Hembroff all had goals.

In the championship game, the Gremlins’ win came courtesy of four goals by Heckel and one by Ian Hong. Goaltender Jonah Falker earned the shutout in both contests.
