Huskies hockey season ends at Bowling Green with sweep

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The 2024-25 Michigan Tech Huskies hockey season came to an end on Saturday with a 4-0 loss at Bowling Green State in the first round of the CCHA Mason Cup Playoffs. The Huskies fell to 16-17-3 overall and BGSU improved to 18-13-4.
“Bowling Green played a tremendous game and played to their strengths this weekend. They’re an older team and a strong team,” Huskies coach Joe Shawhan said. “I’m proud of our guys. They do everything the right way, and they’re great men.”
Quinn Emerson opened scoring 12:12 into the game with his second straight goal in the series, finishing off a centering feed by Ryan O’Hara. Ben Doran also assisted on the play.
Ethan Scardina made it 2-0 in favor of the Falcons with a power-play goal 1:59 later when he flipped in a rebound on the backhand after a shot by Jaden Grant bounced out. Ben Doran picked up his second assist on the goal.
Max Martin scored his second of the weekend for a 3-0 BGSU lead 8:40 into the third period. Jaden Grant was credited with the assist.
Ben Doran added an empty-net goal with 4:21 left in the game to seal the victory.
Tech fell to 0-6 all-time at Slater Family Ice Arena in the conference playoffs.
BG has now won three in a row and advances to the CCHA Semifinals on Saturday, March 15.
The Falcons led in shots 28-27. Ryan Manzella had 24 saves, and Christian Stoever earned the shutout, stopping all 27 shots he faced.
Tech was 0-for-3 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The game was the last for seniors Derek Mullahy, Alex Nordstrom, Marcus Pedersen, Blais Richartz, Trevor Russell, and Jack Works.
HUSKIES FALL IN OT
IN GAME 1
The Huskies opened the postseason with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Falcons on Friday in Game 1. The Falcons scored 5:10 into overtime.
“We were a good team after the first period,” Shawhan said. “We battled hard tonight and Campbell and Manzella were outstanding today and gave us a chance to win.”
The Huskies entered the third period trailing 1-0. It didn’t take long to tie the game. Stiven Sardarian took a shot from the sidewall that was saved. He followed his shot and jammed in the rebound to tie the game with his 11th of the season 1:32 after intermission. Chase Pietila assisted on the goal.
In overtime, Quinn Emerson scored the game-winner finishing off a 2-on-1 with Ben Doran who flipped the setup pass over a pair of diving Huskies. Eric Parker added the second assist.
BGSU opened scoring with 19.8 seconds left in the first period. Jaden Grant was awarded the goal. Initially the official behind the net waved off the play but after review it was called a goal.
The Falcons dominated in shots, taking 60 and getting 31 on net. The Huskies had 21 shots on goal. Ryan Manzella made 29 saves and Christian Stoever stopped 20 shots for the home team.
Tech was 0-for-2 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.
