Keweenaw County v. Law-and-Order Granny

Keweenaw County v. Law-and-Order Granny

Get ready, the Kangaroo Court’s about to convene,

To stick it to Granny, who’s bold and serene.

She dared to demand that the Roos play it fair,

While they passed zoning laws with no record to share.

The Roos saw her as a menace, a rebel so bold,

Her crochet hook in hand, defiance untold.

So they schemed and they plotted, three more to install,

Waiting for their chance to make Granny fall.

But their plan got too reckless, egged on by the loud,

Two chairmen and staff feeling strong and proud.

Yet Granny, so wise, knew something smelled strong,

As they flaunted the laws, confidently wrong.

The new Roo appointed, with mischief in mind,

Attacked at his first meet, thinking he’d shine.

But the Roos got too hasty, courage too high,

Pulled the trigger too soon, thinking Granny would cry.

What was her crime? What made them all fear?

Did she forget the facts or cause a smear?

Did she build on a neighbor’s land by mistake?

Mislead the attorney, for heaven’s sake?

No, it was worse, the crime that they dread–

Missing a meeting while sick in her bed!

They raged and they stamped, but in glee, they miscounted,

For five Roos were present, a quorum was mounted.

And so at the end, of this tale you’ll see,

The Roos at the courthouse, as proud as can be.

Their meetings so strict, the notices clear,

But Granny’s got brains, she may make them tear.

So while they plot, to send Granny away,

Her courage and faith will keep them at bay.

The Roos have such power, reporters fear to write,

But Granny’s got the law, and she’ll continue the fight.

So head on up to the Keweenaw free-for-all,

But watch for the posting, though it’s tiny and small.

The Roos are quite crafty, posting so slight,

But they’ll meet the minimum–that’s their legal right.
