Jack Browning

Jack Curtis Browning of Laurium, age 96, passed a way at his Winter residence in North Carolina this past month. Jack passed of natural causes in his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 26,1928, in the Florida location in Laurium. He was the son of Ruth (Anderson) and Wesley Browning. His lifelong wife of 67 years, Wendy Dahle Browning, of Yorkshire, England, survives.

He attended the Laurium and Calumet schools and enlisted into the USAF in 1948. He served in Europe, Japan and the Middle East and did service in the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force in 1969 and returned to Michigan. He attended courses at MTU and served as a property appraiser in Cheboygan county and later became the equalization director of Emmit county. In 1972, he became the equalization director for Baraga County and retired from same in 1988.

He and Wendy moved back to Laurium, during which time they enjoyed their gardens and their affiliation with the Keweenaw Kernewek and wintered in Florida with their family and friends.

Jack is survived by his wife, Wendy; his son, Richard/wife Carrie (Bradenton, Florida), son, Robert/wife Sarah (Stokesdale, North Carolina); grandchildren Jaclyn, Jessica, Kileigh, Seth and Alec.

He was affectionately known as “Poppy” to his eight, soon to be nine, great grandchildren.

He was loved by all. Jack was a man of few words, but quite witty if you were listening.

At the request of the deceased there will be no visitation, and burial will take place this summer in the Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet.
