Shirley J. Clisch

BARAGA — Shirley J. Clisch, age 88, of Baraga, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at UP Health System – Marquette.

Shirley was born on Dec. 2, 1936, the daughter of the late Arthur and Isabelle (Demgen) LaBeau. She graduated from L’Anse High School in 1957.

On May 17, 1958 she married Gerald “Jerry” Clisch at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse. Shirley was a member of St Ann’s Catholic Church in Baraga, and had been a choir member for 30 years, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, and the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center.

She had been employed at Superior National Bank in housekeeping, she had worked for Mrs. Winkler as a caregiver and as a nutrition director for Keweenaw Bay Indian Community until her retirement. Shirley enjoyed sewing, painting, crocheting and knitting crafts.

Shirley is survived by her devoted and loving husband Jerry of Baraga; children Tim (Kathy) Clisch of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Robert (Sue) Clisch of Iron River, Michigan, Jane (Eric) Hancock of Huntley, Illinois, and Stephaine (Matt) Pionek of Stevens Points, Wisconsin; grandchildren Michael, Darren, Meghan, Jacob, Zachary, Austin, Dave, Brandon, Corey, and Madelyn; great grandchildren Sawyer, Levi, Maisy, Casey, Darren, Johnathan, Keira, Koen, Gabby, Hudson, Trevin, Everett, Jovelyn, Valynn, Payton, Camryn, and Jordyn; and special friend Denise LaPointe of L’Anse.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, sister Josephine LaPointe, and sister and brother-in-law Janet and Art Engel.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2025, at St Ann’s Catholic Church in Baraga with Father Jins Joseph, celebrant. The family will receive friends at church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Immediately following Mass, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the church hall.

Spring interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery.
