Margaret H. ‘Maggie’ Pender

ONTONAGON — Margaret H. “Maggie” Pender, 86, a former resident of Ontonagon, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Canal View – Houghton County, where she had been a resident patient for the past seven years.

She was born on Dec. 22, 1938, in Ontonagon, a daughter of the late Thomas and Helen (Wesamaki) Harris. Maggie was a graduate of the Ontonagon High School with the class of 1957.

On June 6, 1959, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Gerald Pender. The couple had resided in Ontonagon while raising their family. On May 21, 2010, Gerald preceded Margaret in death.

Margaret had worked as a secretary for the Ontonagon Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Pender was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ontonagon, where she sang in the church choir. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing, singing in the choir, painting pictures and spending time with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Gerald; her son, Gerald Thomas Pender; her daughter, Lynn Marie Pender; her granddaughter, Casey Lyn Tourtillott; her sister, Bernice Penegor and her brother, Robert Harris.

Surviving are: her daughter, Jill Pender of Hurontown; her grandsons: George WM Bolo III of Hancock, Cory Tourtillott of Loveland, Colorado; her great-grandchildren: Fay, Matthew, John, Ayana, and Isabelle; her sisters: Lynda (Bill) Uhlig of Ontonagon, and Joy Berg of Appleton, Wisconsin; her brother: Gary (Helga) Harris of Crystal Falls; mumerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
