David “Dave” Rom

David “Dave” Rom, aged 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at U.P. Health System – Marquette. Dave was born on Dec 31, 1934, in Calumet, the son of Joseph and Rose (Rolando) Rom. He spent his childhood years in Calumet, graduating from Calumet High School in 1952. After high school, Dave pursued his education at Michigan Technological University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1956. Following college, Dave served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 during the Korean Conflict, receiving an honorable discharge. After completing his military service, Dave embarked on a long and fulfilling career with Michigan Bell. He worked at various locations throughout Michigan, eventually settling in Saginaw before moving to Marquette in 1956. Dave retired from Michigan Bell in 1989. In retirement, Dave pursued his passion for learning by attending Northern Michigan University, where he earned degrees in Geology and Earth Science. He was an avid reader, always eager to learn new things, and had a special talent for restoring furniture and collecting unique items. During his younger years, Dave played the accordion at local supper clubs, helping him pay for his college education. Dave married Claire Ozello in 1967, and together they raised two children, Joe and Mary. He deeply cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. Dave enjoyed traveling, frequently visiting his son Joe in New York, daughter Mary in Antoich, and treasured summers spent in Calumet, creating lasting memories with his children and loved ones. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Bronswick of Antioch, Illinois; his son, Joseph (Joy Cardillo) Rom of Marquette; four beloved grandchildren, Emily Bronswick and Jake Bronswick both of Antioch, Claire Ausonia Rom and George Washington Rom, both of Marquette; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Claire; son-in-law, Richard Bronswick, and numerous other friends and relatives. Friends may call at the Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral & Cremation Services on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 12 p.m., officiated by Rev. Greg Heikkala. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in the spring. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at U.P. Health System – Marquette for the exceptional care provided to Dave throughout his stay there.
