ELO — Loren David Korpi, of Elo, was called home by our Lord on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Loren was born on June 22, 1972, in Ashby, Massachusetts, to his parents, Larry and Nancy (Somero) Korpi. When he was three years old, the family relocated to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where Loren attended Chassell Southwell Elementary School.
He loved his years growing up in the U.P. with classmates, family and friends, especially outdoor activities like swimming, sledding and snowmobiling. The family moved to Tennessee when he was in eighth grade, and Loren graduated from Hancock County High School in 1990. Loren spent his weekends building homes with his Dad and brothers, reading, biking, and fishing in the nearby Clinch River.
After high school, Loren relocated to Washington, where he worked in construction for many years. He was a hard worker and a very talented craftsman. He spent his free time hunting, fishing and hiking in the northwest. Later he moved to Florida, where he continued to remodel homes and golf with family and friends on the weekends.
A few years back, Loren relocated back to Michigan and purchased a home close to his parents. He was a big help to them when they had medical issues and made gourmet meals and desserts for them on their daily visits. Loren had a passion for cooking, often concocting his own unique recipes with the catch-of-the-day from the local fish market, or smoking brisket with his homemade sauces. He enjoyed entertaining and would often host family and friends for holidays, games, and Saturday dinner/sauna nights. Everyone loved being at his home, as he was always full of fun, kindness and good humor. All the nieces and nephews adored him, as he would play games/watch movies with them, make creative sledding hills in his back yard, fish and pick berries/apples with them, and sneak treats to them for their ride home. He could always bring a smile to their face. Loren loved to go boating/fishing, snowmobiling, find vintage treasures, garden, catch a local car race, or work on special wood working projects for family.
His favorite pastime was golf, which he had a talent for playing.
Loren’s health issues began in the late summer, which initially resulted in gallbladder surgery, but a rare diagnosis, AL Amyloidosis (with no known cause or cure) went undiagnosed during this time, and ultimately resulted in his passing.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Nancy (Somero) Korpi, of Oskar. He is survived by his seven siblings, Lisa (Thomas) Storm, Kristen (Michael) Jankowski, Mark (Sally) Korpi, Jennifer (Michael) Valitalo, Carolyn (James) Williams, Keith (Medina) Korpi, and Priscilla (Daniel) De Lisle; also 22 nieces and nephews; 17 great nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
All who knew Loren had great respect and affection for him, as he was a man of integrity, with a kind heart and genuine goodness. His life was lived with the love he received from his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Loren read God’s Word often and would share his readings and beliefs. He will be profoundly missed by everyone who knew him.
The family will be holding a Private Memorial Service later this year with burial in the Oskar Cemetery.
The family also suggests donations can be made to Camp Lahti through Zion Lutheran Church in Loren’s name. at 400 Ingot St. Hancock MI 49930, or to plant a tree in his memory through the funeral home website.
