CALUMET — Gloria Jean McKinstry of Calumet, passed away on Feb. 5, 2025, at the Omega House in Houghton. Gloria was born on Oct. 29, 1946 in Ionia County, Michigan to Vernon and Paula (Moore) Havens.Gloria graduated from Ionia High School and trained in a local hospital in Grand Rapids,MI as a nurse’s aide. Gloria was a nurse’s aid for over 40 years.
She met the love of her life Roland McKinstry, and they were married in June of 1967 at Temple Baptist Church. Shortly after Gloria and Roland were married, they moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Gloria spent her first summer volunteering at Gitche Gumee Bible Camp, where they would continue to serve for years to come. That fall Gloria took a job at Aspirus Hospital in Calumet where she spent the next 36 years of her career loving and serving people.
Gloria and Roland loved camping, hiking, walking, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, and long car rides together. Gloria enjoyed crocheting, and knitting, often making presents for the ones she loved. She was also quite a cook, and made the best pasties that Roland ever had. Mostly Gloria loved Roland, people, and Jesus. She served her husband at home, she served her patients at the hospital, and she served Jesus in the AWANA program and Sunday school at First Baptist Church of Calumet.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Paula.
Gloria is survived by her husband Roland, her loved nieces and nephews, and a very special Auntie Gaylene.
A funeral service for Gloria McKinstry will be held at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, Michigan at 11am on Monday, February 10, 2025. A visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 -11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gloria’s church “First Baptist Church of Calumet” in Gloria’s honor.
