Portage Township — Darlene Carolyn Blough, 58, passed away on Feb. 7, 2025 in a tragic accident while snowblowing at her home in Chassell. She was known as being the kindest person wherever she went.
Darlene was born on July 13, 1966 in Soellingen, Germany to William and Carol Anne Langton of Winnipeg, Manitoba, her father was serving in the Canadian Armed Forces at the time of her birth.
She received her bachelor’s degree of medical rehabilitation – Physical Therapy (BMR-PT) in 1988 from the University of Manitoba. After spending a couple of years doing temporary contracts as a physical therapist, Darlene settled in the local area. She was employed by Portage Health as a physical therapist since Spring of 1994 where she treated all of her patients with an immense passion. She enjoyed helping people gain back a functional active life so they could live their lives to the fullest. Her patients often thanked her for her treatment with cards and small gifts of appreciation. She held herself to an incredibly high standard when working with her patients, she wanted them to be successful in their recoveries and did everything she could to make that happen.
Darlene married her beloved husband, Jason on Oct. 12, 2002. They were inseparable life partners in everything they did. They made their home on Denton Road in Chassell where they built the family house and a great life together.
Darlene loved and lived life to the fullest, she loved to be active. Darlene placed spending time with her family above everything else, her kids and grandkids were the most important thing in her life. She looked forward to weekly story time with her grandson Clarence. Darlene worked very hard to give her family many great memories and to help them be successful.
In the summers, Darlene and Jason spent as much time as they could boating throughout Lake Superior and the upper Great Lakes with their dog Finnegan. When not on the boat, Darlene spent the summers working in the yard and garden, picking berries, and planting flowers. Darlene loved decorating the house with projects from the kids and grandkids as well as many other decorations. Christmas was her favorite holiday, she always wanted it to be special for the kids. Darlene’s other passion was exercise, whether it be cross country skiing, hiking, biking, working out at 5:00am with Jason or walking Finnegan. Darlene was always passionate about traveling and loved to tag along with Jason on as many of his trips as she could, especially to conferences in Leuven, Belgium where she explored much of central Europe.
