Charles & JoAnne Dennis

Five Mile Point — After more than 35 years of marriage, Charles and JoAnne (Thomas, Dimmer) Dennis, of Five Mile Point in the Keweenaw, passed away just hours apart. Charles was 80 and JoAnne was 70.

Charles passed away after an apparent heart-attack on January 28, 2025, at his home. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 18, 1944, a son of Gordon and Gertrude (Chabby) Dennis. He was very close with his brother, Donald. Charlie and his prior spouse, Nancy (Johnson) Dennis had one son, Charles S. Dennis, Jr. Charlie had a life filled with many interests. He loved animals and horses. He was a craftsman and skilled woodworker. He loved our country and saw the best in people. He was very kind and was loved and will be missed by many people across the country and the world.

JoAnne passed away on January 29, 2025 at Aspirus-Keweenaw Hospital after a long battle with dementia was born in Laurium on December 7, 1954, a daughter of Bertin and Mary Ann Thomas. She preceded in death by her parents and a son, Benjamin Dimmer. She attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Calumet High School. She earned her nursing degree from Michigan Technological University. She and Thomas Dimmer moved to Florida after she graduated from MTU. They both ran a motel on the Gulf of Mexico, where they had two sons-Christopher and Benjamin. They sadly parted ways but remained good friends. This is where she met the love of her life, Charlie Dennis. They got married and moved back to the Copper Country.

They are survived by Charlie’s son-Charles “Chet” Dennis, Jr.; JoAnne’s son-Christopher (Angela) Dimmer; and the pride and joy of Charles and JoAnne: grandchildren, Tayler, Torianna (Cullen), and Jacelynn Dimmer, Annabelle Harris, and Justin Dennis; greatgrandchildren, Karter and Elsie Rowe; along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

As requested by Charles and JoAnne, there will be no public funeral services. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
