Agnes “Dolly” Karkkainen

She was born on Oct. 19, 1928, in Beacon Hill, Michigan, a daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Peuhkurinen) Nissen. Agnes was raised in the Beacon Hill area and was a graduate of Houghton High School and Suomi College.

Dolly was united in marriage to Arnold Karkkainen on Aug. 28, 1950. The couple resided most of their life in Freda while raising their family. On Jan. 9, 2001, Arne preceded Dolly in death.

Mrs. Karkkainen enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards with family and friends, making jam, and baking bread.

Also preceding her in death were her son-in-law: Robert Mantta, along with nine brothers and sisters.

Surviving are: her children: Steven (Sally) Karkkainen of L’Anse, Arne (Jill) Karkkainen of Coles Creek, Elin Mantta of Obenhoff, Ann (Kurt) Schultz of Champion, Susan (Robert Wilson) Campbell of Coles Creek; her grandchildren: Lisa, Daniel, Leah, Matthew, LeeAnn, Joshua, Jesse, Elizabeth, James, Sienna, and Seth; her great-grandchildren: Tyler, Hannah and Madisyn; her sister: Edwina (Kenneth) Wright of Casper, Wyoming.

A Funeral Service for Dolly will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Hancock Chapel with Rev. Brahm Semmler Smith to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Liminga Cemetery.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, from 1 p.m. until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Hancock Chapel.
