Paul M. “Sonny” Mickalich

Baltic — Paul M. “Sonny” Mickalich, 88, a resident of Baltic passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025, at the Omega House in Houghton Following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Jan. 24, 1936, in TriMountain, MI, a son of the late Paul and Florence (Skoviak) Mickalich. Paul was raised in South Range and attended the Jeffers Schools. He then moved with his family to Ypsilanti, MI and Arizona before returning to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Sonny was a proud veteran having served with the United States Army in Korea where he was a Marksman and received a Good Conduct medal.
Mr. Michalich worked at the White Pine Copper Mine until the mine closed. He was a Jack-of-all-trades and enjoyed projects like restoring vintage cars and various projects around the home. He also enjoyed being outdoors riding motorcycles.
Sonny was able to have six children as he was married to Donna Tinsley and then to Mona Roberts.
Preceding him in death were his son Michael Paul Mickalich; his parents; his two sisters Geraldine MacIsaac and Gail Pagel; and his brother David “Oscar” Mihelac.
Surviving are his children, Kelly (Peter) Canfield, Melanie (AJ) Perrault, Christine (Russ) Mattson, Raquel Mickalich, Paul D. Mickalich. 10 grandchildren. Numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private graveside service for Paul will be held later this year in Mt. View Cemetery of South Range.
