Jacob Kris Haralson

GWINN — Jacob Kris Haralson, 37, of Gwinn, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2024, as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born Oct. 20, 1987, in Ishpeming, a son of Kris and Margaret (Kroll) Haralson. He was a 2006 graduate of Gwinn High School, earned an Associate degree from Mid Michigan College and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from NMU.

Jacob was employed as a prison guard at Alger Max Prison before transferring to Marquette Branch Prison. He also worked as a part-time school bus driver for the Gwinn Schools and owned and operated Haralson Excavating. He was a member of the Forsyth Township Fire Department, Knights of Columbus, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the NRA, Eagle Scouts and was a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and farming his chickens and pigs. Above all, his children and Alli were the light of his life. He was all about family. He would do anything for anybody without hesitation. Jake was always the life of the party. His infectious smile and laugh could brighten anyone’s day and if you knew him well enough, you’d get one of his big bear hugs.

He is survived by his children, Aryana R. Haralson, Jacob V. Haralson, Anthony Krepps, Eliana Perry, Caroline Taggart and Isabel Taggart all of Gwinn; soulmate, Alli Singletary of Gwinn; mother, Margaret Haralson of Gwinn, grandmother, Gert Kroll of Gwinn; sister, Kaileena a.k.a. Buck (Luke) McCloskey of Muskegon, MI; nephew, Ezra McCloskey of Muskegon, MI; Aunts and Uncles; Cathy & Mike of Gwinn, MI, Harry of Traverse City, MI, Matt & Connie of Traverse City, MI, Frank & Susan of Coleman, MI, Sherri of Johannesburg, MI, Peggy & George of Clifton, VA, Penny of Petoskey, MI & several cousins who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Kris Haralson; grandfather, Harry Kroll; grandfather Whitey & grandmother Gladys Haralson; Uncles Luke & Ed, Aunt Judy, and cousin Kris.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A parish prayer service will be held at 6:30 pm in the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the church with Rev. Allen Mott officiating. A funeral luncheon will follow the service at the Up North Lodge’s Events Center. Burial will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery in the spring.
