Sharon Lee (Pohjola) Piippo
Feb. 25, 1942 - Dec. 5, 2024
Sharon Lee (Pohjola) Piippo, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Dec. 5, 2024, at the age of 82 in her home surrounded by loving family.
Born in Detroit, Michigan on Feb. 25, 1942 to Carl and Mary Pohjola. After a short stay in Detroit the family returned home to Calumet, Michigan where she lived until her marriage to Ernest ‘Bruddy’ Piippo of Hancock in 1964.
They moved to Dearborn Heights, Michigan, to begin their married life and raise a family. A stay at home mom and homemaker she was generous, kind, and thoughtful, and witty. An expert on spoiling her grandchildren. Known to send everyone in her address book cards for birthdays, Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, any event she could think of, no one was forgotten. She enjoyed trips to the casino and puzzles of all kinds, jigsaws in particular; gardening roses, flowers, and vegetables. Listening to musical talents such as Elvis, Bob Seger and the especially the Beatles. Birdwatching was a favorite pastime and she enjoyed the lighthouses of the U.P.
Preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, we lost Ernie in 2021. Together they raised, and are survived by, their three children who were the light of their lives: Susan Martin, Charles Piippo, and Steve Piippo. Sharon will be greatly missed by her children, and grandchildren Samantha, Hayley and Branden Martin, her siblings Jean Linja, Dianne Trembley, and Charles Pohjola, and her aunt Dorothy Dreon, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and neighbors.
Sharon, ‘Sissy’, will remain in our hearts and memories always.
