Susan Ann Cruickshank

Aug. 3, 1943 - Nov. 21, 2024

Hubbell — Susan Ann Cruickshank, 81 of Hubbell passed away November 21, 2024 in her home with family and her loyal dog Chloe by her side and without reindeer slippers on her feet.

Born August 3, 1943 in Ypsilanti Mi. She was the oldest child of Ford and Emily Rapson. Her brother, David Rapson, was not the only person she considered to be her sibling as she had 2 sisters by choice. Her parents, brother and sisters Rose Ann McMillan, and Barb Bosbous have all proceeded her in death as well as dear friends Jim McNickle and James (Red) Stevens.

She married Albert Cruicksank in 1962 and they welcomed 6 daughters into their family. Mary (Andy) Cruickshank-Peed of Laurium, Lynett (Wayne) Campeau of Lake Linden, Dawn (Ron) Voice of Rabbit Bay, Vicki (George) Williams of Lake Linden, Betsie (Rob) Reed of Tamarack City, and Allison (Sam) Norman of Lake Linden. She raised their daughters almost entirely on her own and each became a fiercely independent woman because of her.

Her 20 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren were the light of her life and the topic of many of her memorable stories. She was a known storyteller and even as cancer started to consume her body, she’d reminisce for hours about the sports her daughters and grandchildren played, fishing tales with Jimmy and Red, her teen and young adult years working as a waitress, and her very large extended family. It was always a fun adventure to go on when the stories would take a few extra turns. She loved bingo and blackjack and made sure to teach her daughters to sit in on some vicious pinochle games. The best parts of her will live on through her children, grandchildren and great children. All have learned to boobenhoff a story or two, to extend a hand to those needing one and, most importantly, that family is more than a bloodline.

The family wishes to thank At Home Companions and Aspirus Home Care and Hospice for their loving care over the last few months.

The visitation will be Monday, December 9th from 6pm until 8pm at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10th at the funeral home with a luncheon to follow at the Loading Zone in Lake Linden. Online condolences may be shared at pearcefuneralhome.com.
