John Peter Klein

HANCOCK — John Peter Klein, 66, of Hancock, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 14th, 2024, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Born on November 4th, 1957, in Hancock, Michigan, John was the beloved son of Mary and George Klein. He attended Hancock High School and spent much of his life working in manufacturing, with stints in both Wisconsin and Texas, before returning to the Upper Peninsula–a place he cherished and called home.

John is survived by his devoted partner, Cindy Juntunen, of Hancock, and his loving children, Nathan Klein, George Klein, Shelby Moilanen and Tabitha Tolonen.

He is also survived by his siblings, Marge (Pete) Nutini, Betty (Pete) Wickley, Kathy (Dave) Wanhala, Barb Wilmers, Nick (Gerri) Klein, Kris (Randy) Oertel, Jim Klein, Phil (Marie) Klein, MaryBeth (Steve) Laiti, and brother-in-law Peter Poggione, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his siblings Carol Egerer, Pat Poggione; his brother-in-laws Marv Egerer and Mike Wilmers; and his sister-in-law Jenise Klein.

John found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman and a diehard sports fan, especially of the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Tigers and Red Wings hockey. He loved spending time with his sons, George and Nathan, and was happiest when spending time outdoors, enjoying the peace and quiet of nature, the companionship of his partner Cindy, and the affection of his two cats, Kitty and Whiskers.

John’s infectious sense of humor and kind-hearted nature earned him a wide circle of loyal friends. His laughter was contagious, and he was deeply loved by many.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
