Kenneth Ekdahl

KINSMAN, OH — Kenneth Gary Ekdahl, affectionately known as Ken or “Kenner” to his friends and family, passed away on January 10, 2024, at the age of 51, after a valiant battle with brain cancer. His final days were spent in Kinsman, OH, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family.

Born on June 28, 1972, in Hancock, Michigan, Ken was the first born son of Ronald and JoAnn (Saari) Ekdahl. While attending Hancock Central High School, Ken found his love of working on cars. After graduation in 1991, he continued his passion, working the next 30 years as a mechanic, most recently with the Trumbull County Engineers. His colleagues respected him not only for his technical expertise but also for his dedication and camaraderie everywhere he worked.

In 2003, Ken’s life was enriched when he married his soulmate, Robin (Schaaf) Ekdahl. Together, they embarked on life’s journey, filled with love and mutual respect. Their partnership was further blessed in 2005 with the birth of their son, Owen, who was the apple of his father’s eye. Ken was a devoted husband and a doting father, roles he considered his greatest accomplishments.

An outdoor enthusiast, Ken found solace and joy in nature. His love for boating, camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, and ATVing was more than just hobbies–they were extensions of his adventurous spirit. Ken also found great satisfaction being a hobby farmer, raising chickens, turkeys, ducks, pigs and rabbits throughout the past 10 years.

Ken’s memory will be treasured and kept alive by his loving family: his wife, Robin; his son, Owen; his parents, Ronald and JoAnn; his siblings, Ronnie, Lori and Gerad (Sarah); and his aunts, uncles, nieces and nephew.

As we say farewell to Kenneth Gary Ekdahl, we celebrate the life of a man who was truly one of a kind. He has embarked on his final adventure, leaving us with memories that will forever be cherished and stories that will be told for generations to come.

There will be a celebration of life for Ken planned for early summer in Hancock, Michigan.
