Pauline D. Anderson

Pauline D. “Ding” Anderson, age 73 of Baraga, MI passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at UP Health System, Marquette, Marquette, MI.

She was born in Baraga, MI on July 26, 1949 the daughter of the late Loyal “Boley” and Evelyn (Maki) Anderson.

Pauline had been injured at the age of 15 in a car accident and was paralyzed. That didn’t slow her down, she began working in the office at Selkey Manufacturing, graduated from Baraga High School in 1967 and then attended Northern Michigan University, in Marquette where she received her Stenographer Degree.

Pauline had been the 1st disabled person to challenge Northern to change their accessibility for the disabled, which they did.

She had held many jobs in her lifetime and retired in 2008 as a clerical receptionist for the State of Michigan following 28 years of service. She was a member of the Democratic Party and a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Baraga, and had been active in the church choir and teaching Sunday School.

Pauline enjoyed politics, playing Keno, decoupaging furniture, crewel handiwork, playing the guitar and piano, vacationing, and the native culture and had received her spirit name.

She was an avid Wayne Newton fan and had gone to several of his concerts. She loved listening to religious music. Her faith was a large part of her life.

Most of all, Pauline was a champion for the underdog. She fought for government rights of the disabled.

Pauline is survived by her loving family: siblings Fay Chaudier of Baraga, Judy (Hambone) Mayo of Baraga, Alan Anderson of Baraga and Doug (Sue) Anderson of Gladstone, nieces Amanda (Tim) Schneider, Bridget Lambrecht, Tricia Anderson (Mitch), Jenny (Chuck) Gylock, Jacqui (Carrie) Anderson, Sara (Norman) Mayo, Shannon Fish (Mike), and Crystal Anderson, nephews Steven (Karen) Anderson, Jeffrey (Kim) Anderson, Daniel Chaudier, Patrick (Michele) Mayo, Joel (Laura) Mayo, and Austin Anderson, great nieces Alicia, Aspen, Jade, Brooke, Katie, Megan, Haley, Brooklyn, Ava, Maddie, Abby, Madison, and Annie Mae, great nephews Seth, Derek, Loyal, Eli, D.J., Chase, Dustin, Carter, Devin, Joel Jr., Caleb, Cole, Caden, Logan, Jeffrey, Noah, Jackson, and Jace.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John Anderson, brother-in-law Durwyn Chaudier, nephew Durwyn Chaudier, and great nephew Christopher Turpeinen.

Funeral services for Pauline will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Julie Belew officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.

Immediately following the funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral home.
