Steven James Rock
BARAGA — Steven James Rock, 64, passed away unexpectedly in October 2020 at his home in Laird Township.
Steve was born October 31st, 1955, in Marquette, the son of James and Bernice (Kemppainen) Rock.
He attended Baraga Schools and graduated in 1973. After graduation, Steve worked at various jobs, including for Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company, on a freighter on the Great Lakes and shrimp boats in the Gulf.
In the early 1980’s, he moved to Shreveport, Louisiana and then to Austin, Texas, working with a plumbing company and also a landscaping company. In 1995, he began work with a trucking company and got his CDL license and for a few years he drove truck long haul cross-country.
In more recent years, he moved back to the U.P. and worked as a mechanic and rebuilding engines. A true Yooper, Steve enjoyed fishing and hunting throughout his life. He enjoyed the outdoors, and taking his mum to the outdoor concerts.
He is survived by his 95 year old mother, sisters Connie(Alvin) Mueller, Lori Morin (Mark Radtke) Carol (Bill) Boever, his paternal aunt Dolly Ensign and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents, his father James R. Rock and uncle John R. Rock, cousins Randy Rock and Brian Rock.
A graveside memorial will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2020, at the Elo Cemetery.
