John H. Ohman

SOUTH RANGE — John H. Ohman, former Copper Country resident, passed away on October 17, 2020, at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

He was born in Hancock on January 16, 1950, during the “blizzard of the century” to Sally K. and John A. Ohman, both now deceased residents of South Range.

John is survived by his sister, Patricia (Joel) Winthrop of Moseley, Virginia; his niece, Jennifer and her husband and three children; and numerous cousins.

A 1968 graduate of Jeffers High School, John later studied at Suomi College and Michigan Tech, completing two years towards a degree in chemistry.

John excelled in a course at the Naval Electronics School in California before he served overseas. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy after proudly serving his country.

Though he struggled with mental illness for most of his life, John was a man of intellect who relished a good debate and a challenging game of chess. He enjoyed camping, country music, liked making stews and pasties, and appreciated a good cup of coffee. John gave generously to Save the Children as well as various other charities, and he cherished his rescue dog.

A graveside service will be held in the Mountain View Cemetery in the spring or summer of 2021.

Arrangements are being handled by the Mountain View Mortuary of South Range, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
