Copper Country under blizzard warning until 7 p.m. Saturday
A blizzard warning was issued Friday for Keweenaw, Ontonagon, northern Houghton and Gogebic counties. The warning is in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday.
The affected region can expect blizzard conditions in the form of snow accumulation and high winds. As many as 24 inches of snow may fall. Winds as high as 55 to 65 mph near the lakeshore and up to 40 to 45 mph inland are predicted.
Travel is not advisable. Blowing snow may significantly reduce visibility. Strong winds may damage trees.
Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. Experts advise motorists to remain in their vehicles if they are stranded. Wind chills as low as 20 degrees below zero could cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes.
