Hancock Councl to consider water rates and more

Ben Garbacz/Daily Mining Gazette Hancock City Hall is seen in this photo taken Monday. The city council will deal with several items at tomorrow's regular meeting including water rates for new residents, vacancies on several city board and the upcoming annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Water rates, board vacancies and Easter Eggs will face the Hancock City Council tomorrow. The Council will hold its regular monthly meeting Wednesday. Among the items is a vote on a resolution that will raise the city’s water rates. The meeting will include a public hearing and discussion regarding the rates, which Hancock residents are welcome to attend and share their thoughts and concerns with the council.
The resolution would approve an increase to the standard fees of connected water systems to new users. This increase is being proposed to cover city debts, and the bond payments will also have flat rates increased. Certain payments with water will go down however, with the consumable rate of water going from $9.05 to $7.90 per 1,000 gallons of water.
City Manager Mary Babcock said the public hearing will provide things to consider for the city council.
“The public hearing is for the public to voice questions and concerns so everything is taken into consideration when adjusting the rates,” she said.
If the resolution is passed, the rate changes water will go into effect on May 16.
The meeting will also see three vacant board openings filled by the council’s appointment. One applicant put in for the Cemetery Board, two applicants put in for the Zoning Board of Appeals and three applicants put in for the Planning Commission.
“We’re happy to have someone finally fill all these positions,” Babcock said.
The council meeting will also go into the details of Saturday’s Easter Egg Hunt on Quincy Green. The event will have the Easter Bunny interacting with residents as they search the area for 3,000 hidden eggs.
