HANCOCK — Many older adults want to stay in their homes as they age. For many, however, living alone may be daunting. Others may require assistance with personal care and activities with daily living, but want to preserve their independence as much as possible, while living in a social environment.

White Oasis Adult Foster Care Group Home offers senior women the best of both worlds.

All-inclusive and state-licensed, White Oasis offers a single-level, custom home with six private bedrooms. Each has a private attached half-bath with a bidet. The home boasts a large modern farmhouse kitchen and a spacious dining room where meals will be served as a family.

Located on Roselund Road, the brand-new facility is under construction, with completion scheduled for April 2024. The luxurious, upscale home is located north of Hancock in a lovely country setting, but still within proximity to town.

Anita Johnson, registered nurse, owner and administrator, said that in addition to care planning, her license covers meal and menu planning. However, residents can be as involved, or uninvolved, as they would like to be in meal preparations and cooking.

“The goal is to promote independence and have them maintain their independence as much as they would like to,” said Johnson, “yet still live in a group setting and not be alone, or lonely.”

At the same time, residents do not have to worry about the expenses and maintenance that go along with owning a vehicle.

“Most people who live in this capacity don’t drive anymore,” said Johnson. “So White Oasis will provide transportation to and from appointments and anything that they would need.”

In addition to transportation needs being provided, the facility also will provide outings such as sightseeing, shopping, volunteering, dinner, the library, etc. These are options to those with specific interests and to encourage community involvement.

There will also be daily planned activities, such as games, gardening, exercise, group socialization and individual leisure time.

White Oasis is fully-staffed, including 24-hour supervision and monitoring by highly trained nurses and staff. Medication management and supervision are just one part of care.

Johnson said the home is fully furnished, including the private bedrooms, adding that all that is needed are personal clothing and a toothbrush.

Residency also includes daily housekeeping, full laundry service and ironing.

Application for admission is now open to potential female residents.

Starting at $2.99/week.
