HANCOCK — Get ready for a weekend of frosty artistry and frigid fun! The City of Hancock, in collaboration with Visit Keweenaw will host the inaugural Snow Sculpting Invitational this weekend on Quincy Green in downtown Hancock.

The event will feature four teams of talented snow sculptors, including two national teams. Sculptor Borealis, whose members have won the National Snow Sculpting title four times in six appearances over t he last seven years, will face off against Team USA, winners of the Bronze medal at the 1998 Nagano Olympics. The team is also a two-time National Snow Sculpting title winners.

The Keweenaw will be represented by Michigan Tech teams TKE and St. Albert the Great Parish, winners of this month’s winter carnival month-long and one-night snow statues respectively.

The competition kicks off at 1 p.m. today and will continue through tomorrow and will end at 1 pm. Sunday.

Judging will follow with the announcement of the winners scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.

There will be a festive atmosphere with the Matador Restaurant Food Vendor open on Quincy Green, The Cold Season TORI and Neighborhood Market will have extended hours on Saturday with the addition of The Forge, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. along with Copper Country Kettle Corn, and Face Painting for Kids of all ages with Annie Rocks.
