STANNARD TOWNSHIP — A 36 year old man from Bonduel, Wisc. succumbed to injuries he sustained from a snowmobile accident in Ontonagon County Friday. According to a release from the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Friday on Snowmobile Trial #3 near Federal Forest Rd. 730 and U.S. 45 in Stannard Township.

The Sheriff’s office said the victim was medically attended to by EMS and other first responders but was pronounced deceased sometime later.

SONCO South Ambulance Service, Bruce Crossing Fire Dept., Ontonagon County Medical Examiner’s Office, Cane Funeral Home and Lake Gogebic Towing all assisted in the emergency.

Police believe alcohol and speed were factors in the mishap. No further information will be released from the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office at present.

The fatality was at least the fifth in the Upper Peninsula and fourth in the western U.P. in the month of January.

All of the victims were from Wisconsin.
