Body of missing MTU student found
University is offering counseling
HOUGHTON — The body of the 36-year-old Michigan Tech graduate student reported missing late last week has been found.
Matthew Sisson, who and Graduate Student Government Vice President Matthew Sisson has been found deceased. Sisson was reported missing on Feb. 14 after he had informed his family that he was going to Walmart on Feb. 11 and was not heard from since. Local law enforcement and Michigan Tech Public Safety have determined that no foul play is suspected.
Public Safety and local law enforcement thank the public for their assistance in the search over the past few days.
Michigan Tech expressed that their community’s thoughts are with Sisson’s family and have informed the students that the MTU Center for Student Mental Health and Well-being is available for those impacted by Sisson’s passing.
The Center offers counseling which allows one on one sessions with a counselor via appointment. Walk-in appointments are available, with hours for the Center being Mon. through Fri. from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
There is also the 24/7 TELUS Health Student support which offers access to mental health professionals online who are available around the clock. The program’s app and services are free to students.
Michigan Tech said that no other information will be disclosed at this time out of respect for Sisson’s family.
