Two injured in Tuesday accident

OSCEOLA TOWNSHIP — Two persons were injured as a result of an accident involving two pickup trucks Tuesday night near Tamarck City.

State Police said the crash occurred at approximately 7:48 p.m. Tuesday on M-26 near Junction Road in Houghton County’s Osceola Township.

The preliminary investigation showed that a pickup truck traveling southbound on M-26 lost control and starting sliding sideways. The vehicle crossed the centerline striking a northbound pickup with a plow.

Upon contact the southbound truck was split into two pieces. Both drivers were taken to UP Health System Portage by Mercy EMS.

According to a State Police press release, alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. Michigan State Police were assisted on the scene by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Hancock City Police Department, Lake Linden Village Police, Laurium Village Police, Mercy EMS, Tamarack City Fire Department, Hubbell Fire Department, Dollar Bay Fire Department and Superior Service. The accident remains under investigation.
