It’s On!
Copper Dog 150 races are back
THE KEWEENAW — Whether you want to credit Heikki Lunta or Mother Nature, either way the Keweenaw is blessed with significant snowfall this season — passing last year’s snow totals for January. This delivers ideal conditions for the highly anticipated CopperDog 150, taking place Feb. 28 to March 2. With a great snow base and forecasts showing a continuation of the Keweenaw’s heavy-hitting winter, Visit Keweenaw says this year’s CopperDog 150 will be one for the books.
According to a Visit Keweenaw press release, the CopperDog150 races wind through the Keweenaw’s rugged landscape and snow-laden small towns.
First-time spectators and returning fans will find many opportunities to cheer on mushers, meet sled dogs and enjoy the magic of the Keweenaw’s CopperDog 150.
If you’re in the Keweenaw during CopperDog – you need to be at the race start on the night of Friday, Feb. 28. The community sets up along Fifth Street packing a snow road to launch mushers north in their first race of the weekend. As the last mushers go out folks are encouraged to stick around town for fire pits, street food and fireworks at dusk.
