L’ANSE — The L’Anse Village Council held its second meeting of the month on Monday. The Council received reports that the village’s Christmas lights have been put up and that the snow equipment is at the ready for the arrival of winter.

The biggest news to be reported to the Council was that Meadowbrook Arena is now fully completed regarding the upgrades and improvements.

The arena received new boards in October from a grant, but the arena was still in need of improving its overall look. It has now received a new coat of paint which took volunteers about three days to finish.

Department Supervisor, and President of the L’Anse Hockey Association, Nathan Turpeinen said that once the boards were completed that the rest of the arena had to improve in appearance.

“The building inside was just grungy,” he said. “So we freshened it up and painted the whole building. We also hung some cables for some advertising banners.”

Turpeinen also said that the community reception of the arena has been overwhelmingly positive, and that the upgrades have removed the need for regular repairs.

The meeting then concluded with the board agreeing to pay the village’s bills.

Starting at $2.99/week.
