Final update on Summit Lake Fire
The Ottawa National Forest has released its last update on the Summit Lake Fire which began on Oct. 18. The fire located in the northwest corner of the McCormick Wilderness between Summit Lake and Evergreen Lake has weakened to a minimalist state due to firefighting, precipitation and low temperatures over the past several days.
There may be some possible smoldering in dead and downed debris over the 328 acres of the fire, but the containment of the hazard is currently at 90%. The closure of the north half of the wilderness area was terminated on Nov. 6 though firefighters will continue to monitor the area to keep the fire within its current reach. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
