Calumet Theatre boiler installation remains on schedule
CALUMET — The installation of a new boiler furnace is progressing on schedule.
Calumet Theatre Company Board President Dan Jamison said Marty’s Heating Services, of Hancock, has disassembled and removed the disabled furnace and has rebuilt the core of the boiler with new parts.
On Friday, Marty Trevathan tested the system for leaks using compressed air and determined it maintained a steady pressure throughout the day.
Jamison said that on Monday, Travathan traveled to Wisconsin for fittings for the furnace’s manifold, because they were too big, and not sold locally.
“His plan for the end of this week,” Jamison said, “is to put the manifold back together, connect it to the system, but leave the shut-off valve off, and fire the boiler to get the steam pressure up in the boiler to see if it will get valve cuts off.”
Once that test has been completed, the boiler inspector can certify that the boiler is correct.
“Then we can apply for our $50,000 (reimbursement) from SHPPO,” said Jamison.
The next phase of the project is to then have Trevathan examine the pipes, connections, and radiators throughout the theater, first with compressed air, then with steam.
The project should be completed before the end of November.
