Hancock PD seek hit-and-run suspect
HANCOCK — Hancock police are looking to identify a driver who rear-ended several vehicles on Front Street in Hancock Saturday afternoon.
The silver Honda Ridgeline with heavy front-end damage hit several vehicles that were stopped due to traffic, police said in a Facebook post Tuesday. Surveillance footage showed it driving across the Portage Lake Lift Bridge at 2:25 p.m. directly before the incident Saturday.
Immediately after it crossed the bridge, they turned onto Front Street, where a car was stopped on the roadway, said Officer Donny Lusty.
“I don’t know if they didn’t see it or what, but they just smashed right into two trucks,” he said.
The car pulled into the parking lot of the Lodge Luxury Suites, then turned around and took M-26 towards Ripley, Lusty said. A trail of fluid petered out below the bridge.
“It couldn’t be long for this world the way it was overheating,” he said.
The truck may have a push mower and a tarp in the bed.
A license plate was not mounted on the back of the car, but one is partially visible in the back window.
“We haven’t been able to make out what the first three letters or numbers are,” said Officer Donny Lusty. “We can try running a partial, but it doesn’t really come back to anything.”
The department is hoping someone might have had a better angle to view the numbers, or have a clearer image on a dashcam.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the truck and the owner please reach out to the Hancock Police Department directly at (906) 482-3102.
