ISLE ROYALE — The Horne Fire at Isle Royale National Park is about 20% contained, the National Park Service announced Monday.
The 245-acre fire began on Aug. 10, but grew to more than 200 acres a week ago thanks to high winds on Lake Superior. It is suspected to have been caused by a lightning strike near the shore of Duncan Bay by the Tobin-Duncan Portage Trail.
Firefighters on scene include 22 from the National Park Service, 8 from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and 21 from Virginia.
