April 12

• 2025 Baraga County Spring Fling Family Resource Fair, 10 a.m. -12:30 p.m. The annual Baraga County Spring Fling Family Resource Fair is a FREE, fun, family event for families in Baraga County with young children. This year there will be 2 magic shows to go along with the usual giveaways, activities, games and free books! Located in the Niiwin Akeaa Center, 111 Beartown Rd. Baraga

• Butterflies, bees and “cues to care” will be featured at the Keweenaw Native Plant Symposium, set for 9 a.m. to noon on Zoom. The event is free, and everyone is welcome. Keynote speaker Kim Eierman will discuss cues to care, or ways native gardeners can address the concerns of their neighbors and local officials. Other topics include gardening for butterflies and how native bees nest and forage in the forest. To learn more and register, visit keweenaw.wildones.org.

April 13

• The Keweenaw Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (KUUF) will host a public forum online titled “Preventing Violence in Churches, Schools, Businesses” at 10:30 am. The presentation will discuss prevention and response strategies to potential and active violence in a variety of settings. The speaker will be Josh Sarranen, Houghton County Sheriff. April 15

•Temple Jacob in Hancock is sponsoring an appearence by Holocaust survivor Irene Miller, who will speak at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at Houghton High School Her presentation is free and open to the public. Miller is author of Into No Man’s Land: A Historical Memoir, which tells the story of her family trying to escape the horrors of the Holocaust only to wind up in a frozen field in no man’s land, then in a Siberian labor camp, and finally starving in an impoverished village in Uzbekistan. The book is a story of courage, perseverance, and the power of the human spirit.

• “Memory Loss/Dementia Caregiver Support Group” 6 p.m. Canal View Hancock. It takes a lot to care for a loved one. This monthly group is safe place for those caring for loved ones of those suffering from memory loss or dementia. These monthly meetings are open to the public.

April 17

•”Omega House’s Grief Support Group Meeting” – You are welcome to participate in Omega House’s Third Thursday Community Grief Support Group from 5 – 6 p.m. There will be options to participate in person or online/phone. We will be gathering in person at Omega House.  We also provide a zoom link to be online or on the phone at this meeting from the comfort of your own space.
