HANCOCK - Robert William Hoffenbecker, 88, a resident of Hancock Canal, passed away in his sleep Wednesday, July 23, 2014.
Robert was the son of William and Rose (Betzing) Hoffenbecker.
He was born on March 1, 1926, in Phoenix, Michigan. He married Eleanore Schroderus in 1945. Following her death in 1959, he married Ethel Lampinen in 1961.
Robert was employed at George Hocking & Son Logging Company and George Hocking Construction for a total of 48 years. Bob and Ethel owned and operated the Holiday Motel in Houghton for six years. Following their retirement in 1975, they traveled for 18 years to Florida in the winter to visit family and friends. Bob and Ethel enjoyed their Sunday drives together and for many years Bob loved to meet his friends for coffee.
Surviving are his sister, June (Jim) Vendor of Kentucky; brothers, Gordon (Lina) Hoffenbacker, Washington and Dwight Hoffenbacker of Oregon; sister, Mary Hoffenbacker of Montana; two sons, Bruce (Mary) Hoffenbecker and Curtis (Barb) Hoffenbecker; grandchildren, Jared (Bobby Jo) Hoffenbecker, Justin (Brittany Turner) Hoffenbecker, Nathan (Andrea Larson) Hoffenbecker, Stacy (Dan) Toutant and Lauren Hoffenbecker; five great grandchildren, Brenden, Jade, Cameron, Chance and Brady; numerous nieces, nephews and longtime friends, William Andreini and Harold Honkavaara.
Preceded in death were his father; mother; step-mother, Helmi (Helen); brothers, Hubert and Ellsworth Hoffenbacker, Verne and Bruce Hoffenbecker (infant); step-daughter, Carol (Fred) Zenner.
A private memorial service will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014, in the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home in Hancock, with Pastor Sally Wilke to officiate.
Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
