HOUGHTON - Hancock Bottling played well above its No. 4 seed in the Portage Lake Little League's Junior (age 13-14) playoffs, running the table and beating Range Bank 8-2 for the crown.
"We peaked at the right time," said manager Steve Nordstrom. "We were led by our pitching and our defense raised to another level. Proud of these young men because each of them improved throughout the season."
Hancock Bottling scored three times in the first inning on an error and hits from Alex Nordstrom, Bryce Turner and Carson Turner, then added four more runs on errors, walks and a key hit from Vaughn Kappler.

Alex Nordstrom and Bryce Turner finished with two hits apiece.
Carson Turner allowed just one run on two hits in a complete game with six strikeouts.
Cayman Kraniak scored Range Bank's lone run in the fourth after a lead-off single.
In Senior softball, Calumet Lions claimed the title Saturday by doubling up Copper Range Abstract and Title 10-5.
Matt's Auto Glass rolled to victory over Pat's Foods for the PLLL Major baseball crown.
Colton Salani's two-run homer in the first inning got Pat's the early lead, but Brady Schmerier's single later in the inning turned out to be the last hit Matt's pitcher Jiseung Choi allowed.
Choi went the distance, fanning seven.
Matt's took the lead in the bottom of the first with three runs and got rolling from there.
Four players had at least two hits. Jimmy Pietila had a pair of doubles and a single, Lars Massie a pair of singles and a double and both Eli Larson and Ari Rautiola had two hits apiece.
In the Keweenaw Little League, REL, Inc., surprised Loading Zone II 3-2.
REL made a 3-1 lead after 3 1/2 innings hold up with the help of a one-hitter from pitcher Dean Loukus.
Loukus threw 86 pitches and struck out six.
Landon Johnson had REL's only hit and only RBI.
Loading Zone also got a one-hitter from Cole Gregorie and Carter Crouch, who pitched three innings apiece. Caleb Gregorie had a triple for Loading Zone's only hit and only RBI.
In Minor baseball, Tervo Agency rolled all the way to the Portage Lake Little League championship in a 9-1 win over South Range VFW.
Brandon's Pietila's triple led off the home half of the first and started a three-run inning for Tervo.
South Range picked up its run in the second after Donovan Dueweke tripled then scored on a passed ball.
Tervo put the game away with a four-run fifth inning.
Dean Jurmu allowed only four hits and a walk in a complete-game win. He, Pietila and Nolan Sturos all posted two hits.
In Minor softball, Kevin's Self Storage defeated Aspirus Keweenaw 7-2 for the championship. Gabrielle Mukavetz pitched six solid innings and allowed only two runs while striking out nine.
Mukavetz had two hits for Kevin's, while Elisa Isaacson, Keegan Leonard, Emily Farmer and Sierra Driscoll had one.
Haley Schjoth, Madisyn Holombo and Kaydence Kilpela combined on the pitching duties for Aspirus.
