Louis J. “Louie” Campioni, Jr.

DOLLAR BAY - Louis J. "Louie" Campioni, Jr., 75, of Dollar Bay, died on Monday, January 27, 2014, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where he had been a patient since Wednesday.

He was born in Hancock, on November 19, 1938, a son of the late Louis and Cecelia (Asiala) Campioni, Sr., and was a 1957 graduate of the Hancock Central High School.

Louie worked for various employers, including Calumet & Hecla, the White Pine Copper Co., and prior to retirement, worked for 20 years at the Upper Peninsula Power Company. Following retirement, he worked for five years as a janitor at the Dollar Bay Elementary School.

Louie was married for 52 years to the former Elaine Kinnunen.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed camping for many years at the Baraga State Park, always looking forward to lighting bonfires and "Christmas in July" at the park. He also looked forward to bike riding and playing games with his grandchildren.

Louie was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine of Dollar Bay; three sons, Donald (Mary) Campioni of L'Anse, Robert (Sheala) Campioni of Dollar Bay, Gary (Dionn) Campioni of Flint; one daughter, Karen (Kevin) Ericson of Hancock; eight grandchildren, Coalton (Emma) Campioni, Cody, Eli, Noah and Mia Campioni, Kaitlyn, Korey and Kenny Ericson; two great-grandchildren, Cara Czajka and Stanley Campioni; two brothers, James (Kay) Campioni of Chassell and Stephen (Evelyn) Campioni of Calumet; one sister, Jean (Roger) Manninen of Chassell; one aunt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014, in Zion Lutheran Church in Hancock, with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate.

Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Spring burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Arrangements are being handled by the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home of Hancock, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
